Why Lavender?
Living in a naturally beautiful environment with an abundance of beautiful native plant & flower species, we couldn’t help but fall in love with this versatile Muskoka terrain. Our love of Lavender has motivated us to be the first in the region to introduce this native Mediterranean powerhouse plant as a commercial crop to our little oasis. The natural benefits of Lavender for health & beauty are truly endless and we wanted our community to enjoy these amazing benefits as much as we do.
The lavender plant’s blue & purple blooms are distinctive in their beauty and its fragrance is heady and evocative. It is highly regarded for its purifying qualities, making it a fantastic natural ingredient in fragrances, skincare and shampoos. Lavender also makes it way into the kitchen. The English variety can be substituted for rosemary in baking, for flavouring in food, sugar, salt and as an ingredient in teas and cold drinks.
It also has medicinal benefits, used to treat anxiety, fungal infections, hair loss and sores. Lavender oil is believed to have antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties which can help heal minor burns and insect bites. When ingested as tea, it can help relieve digestive issues and is often used to help relieve pain.
Lavender is also grown for the production of its essential oil, which comes from the distillation of its flower spikes. Its blooms attract butterflies and bees, offering its sweet nectar which contributes to crop pollination and the longevity of our natural environment.
Here at Muskoka Lavender, we’re constantly looking to create innovative products that showcase lavender as one of nature’s most versatile and alluring plants.
